Why the measured geometry is the asset

Drawings answer the questions you asked for. The measured geometry answers the ones you did not. That distinction matters most on renovations, disputes and any building you are about to lose access to.

It imports directly into AutoCAD and Revit without conversion.

Included, not upsold

Some platforms charge separately for a geometry export — commonly around $150. Ours is in every project at no additional cost, because a measured record without the underlying data is not really a measured record.

Read this before you buy

If you arrived here looking for a dense terrestrial laser scan — a survey-grade E57 or RCP from an RTC360, a Focus or similar — that is not what we produce, and you should hire someone who does. Firms running that equipment are the right call for fabrication tolerances, structural deformation analysis, boundary work and anything needing a surveyor's seal.

What we produce is Measured wall geometry in DXF: laser-derived points tied to the wall segments and floor-plan geometry of the capture, in a form CAD opens directly. It is the right input for existing-conditions drawings, renovation planning, space measurement and LOD 200 modeling. It is the wrong input for anything requiring millimeter tolerance.

We publish this rather than let you find out after the invoice. The full comparison of when to use which is worth five minutes if you are unsure.

What is in the point cloud DXF, and how to use it

The file contains laser-derived measured points tied to the wall segments and floor-plan geometry of the capture, per floor, in real-world units. It opens directly in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Revit and anything else that reads DXF — no plugin, no conversion, no proprietary viewer.

The normal workflow is to bring it in as an underlay on its own layer, set your origin, and draft against it — tracing and snapping to real measured positions instead of transferring dimensions off a field sketch. That is the whole value: the geometry you are drawing over was measured rather than remembered.

What it is not

  • Not a dense surface cloud. There is no millions-of-points-per-setup colorized mesh. It is measurement data tied to building geometry, which is a smaller and far more workable file.
  • Not E57 or RCP. DXF only. If your pipeline requires ReCap ingestion of a registered scan, this is not that file, and we will say so before you buy.
  • Not ceilings or MEP. Overhead systems are not in this dataset. Reflected ceiling plans are a separate deliverable produced from the capture.
  • Not survey-grade. About one centimeter on wall distances. Correct for design and planning, wrong for fabrication.

Why we changed what we call it

"Point cloud" means different things to different buyers, and the gap between them is expensive. To a fabricator it means a registered terrestrial scan at millimeter accuracy. To an architect it usually means "measured geometry I can trace." We deliver the second and not the first, so we now describe it as Measured wall geometry — and we keep this page under the search term people actually type, because being findable and then being honest is better than being either one alone.

The decision table for which one your project needs sends four of its eight rows to somebody other than us. That is deliberate.

Questions
How big are the files?

Small — typically single-digit megabytes per floor rather than the multi-gigabyte files a terrestrial scan produces. That is a practical advantage: it emails, it opens instantly, and it does not need a workstation.

Is it georeferenced?

Not by default. Coordinates are local to the building. If you need it tied to a project survey point or shared coordinate system, tell us at scoping, and we will set the origin to match.

Is it included or an add-on?

Included in every base package at no extra charge, alongside the DWG and the plotted PDFs.
