What departments actually lack
Pre-plan software is widely adopted and generally good. What it runs on is building data, and most of that data is a hand sketch, an old permit drawing, or nothing at all for the buildings that matter most.
We are the capture layer. Whatever platform you run — FlowMSP, APX, Esri or another — we produce the floor plans and interior walkthrough and deliver in the format it takes.

The software is not the hard part. The building data is.
NFPA 1620 sets out what a pre-incident plan should contain, and every major platform — the ones departments already license — will hold that information competently. What none of them do is go to the building and measure it.
So the plans get built from whatever exists: a leasing plan from 2006, a fire-alarm shop drawing, a sketch somebody made on an inspection. The platform is current and the geometry underneath it is not, and nobody discovers the difference until an incident.
What goes stale, and how quietly
- Tenant improvements. Commercial space is re-partitioned constantly. Nothing about that process updates a pre-plan.
- Door swings and egress paths change with every fit-out.
- Utility shutoffs move, and the label on the old plan stays where it was.
- Additions and infill that never made it back onto a drawing.
- Roof access and hatches — frequently wrong, and consequential.
We are the data layer, not the platform
We are not selling a competing system, and we do not want to replace the one you have. We produce the measured base drawing that goes underneath it — a dimensioned DWG on standard layers, plotted PDF sheets, the wall geometry in DXF, and an interactive walkthrough of the interior as it stands.
That walkthrough is worth more than it sounds for training. A crew can move through a building before they are ever dispatched to it: see the actual corridor widths, where the stair discharges, what the mechanical room looks like, which door is the one that matters. It is the part of a pre-plan that a paper drawing has never been able to deliver.
Who pays for this
Rarely the department directly. In practice, it is the building owner as a condition of occupancy or insurance, the school district out of a safety grant, the healthcare system out of a Joint Commission readiness budget, or the platform vendor as part of an implementation. A growing number of states now mandate critical incident mapping for schools, and others fund it outright. The count changes every legislative session, so check your own state rather than trusting anyone’s list — including ours.
